Students visit Page 1 Printers

It’s true that kids today consume media differently than their parents did at the same age. But the tactile attractions of newsprint are still fascinating a new generation. In May, we hosted a couple of tours from Pipestone Elementary and St. John’s Elementary of Okabena. The kids got a kick out of the big machines and the huge rolls of paper. As part of their journalism class, the Pipestone 4th graders watched us turn words, ink and paper into a real newspaper. One of the students even sent us a rendition of a front page layout— evidence that this business gets under your skin at early age.
